However, for a while, I noticed that there was an egregious problem with the site. The overwhelming negativity and invasion of privacy attempting to look like actual "journalism" was insulting and degrading for both the readers as well as the celebrities being targeted. It's ridiculous. They show pictures of accidental wardrobe malfunctions, use a brightening tool to enhance women's nipples and breasts if they can be seen in sheer clothing, show some homophobia by attacking Ne-Yo and other celebrities with "How ya doin" claims, and basically promote all-around ignorance and disrespect that just shouldn't be tolerated.
Even with recognizing all of this, I still went on the site. I couldn't help it; I was kind of addicted to all the negativity and devil-inspired coonery! However, I realized that my personal integrity, commitment to justice, devotion to the good, and the interest in saving my soul all superseded curiosity and getting into business that was not my own and frankly not to be put on blast.
So I quit, cold turkey because I realized that to be a human, especially a black woman, frequenting a site that was disparaging and dehumanizing to my people was morally reprehensible. And just to show that I aint making this shit up, I'll show you what's on MTO today and I'm sure it'll be the same stuff I saw when I went to the site for the last time some months ago.
So here are some of the headlines you can see from this screengrab: Michelle Williams allegedly getting "booty implants," Tia Mowry's wardrobe malfunction (with pics!), a dancing woman's dirty underwear, and a "top rapper" allegedly having relations with another man. Now, this is what they ACTUALLY CALL journalism!Media Takeout's view of journalism only involves invading the privacy of celebrities in the most cruel of ways, through objectifying their bodies, slandering their names, misrepresenting the truth, and just being all-around assholes for the sake of OUR OWN ENTERTAINMENT.
And we can't front like we don't like it. Hell, I did for the longest, especially if it involved someone I didn't particularly care for. Many do too, for that item about the homosexual rapper netted almost 2,000,000 views!
Granted, when one becomes a celebrity, they must acknowledge that they are going to be thrown into the public eye. However, does part of celebrity mean being treated as less than nothing? Does it mean that their personal, private lives become fodder for our personal enjoyment? Do we neglect their own humanity and our own by co-signing on this recklessness and (honestly) bullshit?
We've got to do better. As a community, we must call for better treatment of everyone, including celebrities. After all, would we want our own bodies subject for public view, ridiculed, and tarnished while our reputations and private lives are put on show like freak circuses?
Absolutely not. Let's be called to a higher standard, a higher plane of morality and decency. Let's exercise common sense and rationality and stop spreading this straight-up horse manure.
Media Take Out's blatant buffoonery, coonery, disrespect, and asshole qualities deserve...

Five slaps and a Riley Freeman middle finger!

I couldn't agree more. I got addicted to that site too just a few months ago, but I shall take your lead and go cold turkey! Plus, i'm tired of the Trey Songz gay allegations and triflin pictures of Rihanna anyway. I can do without it.
ReplyDeleteThat's the spirit!!
ReplyDeleteQuitting is hard, but you can do it!
I know what you mean. I hate that when I type the letter M into my browser, it automatically suggests mediatakeout because of my previous visits. Its sickening, lol.
